invite (邀) + bind by agreement (约) = extend an invitation
邀 uses movement (辶) to suggest going out to reach someone; 约 uses the thread/binding radical (纟) to suggest tying an agreement together. A true invitation both reaches out and binds two parties to a shared plan.
他发出邀约，请朋友来家里吃饭。
tā fā chū yāo yuē，qǐng péng you lái jiā lǐ chī fàn。
he sent out an invitation, asking friends to come to his home for dinner.
她收到邀约后，认真考虑了很久才决定去。
tā shōu dào yāo yuē hòu，rèn zhēn kǎo lǜ le hěn jiǔ cái jué dìng qù。
