鸡蛋
jī dàn
(chicken) egg
hen's egg; CL:個|个[ge4],打[da2]
chicken (鸡) + crawling-creature egg (蛋) = hen's egg
鸡 pairs a grasping hand with the bird radical — a chicken is a bird you catch by hand. 蛋 uses the crawling-creature radical because eggs were first associated with reptiles and insects that lay them in the ground, only later extended to birds.
