Privacy Policy

Zigo ("Zigo", "we", "us") is a Chinese learning app available at heyzigo.com. This policy explains what information we collect when you use Zigo, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information we collect

Account information: your email address and basic profile details (such as a display name) when you create an account, including when you sign in through a third-party sign-in provider.
Learning activity: the characters and words you save, your review history and scheduling data, and your progress across HSK levels.
Photos you scan: if you use the Zigo Reader, the photos you capture or upload are processed to extract the Chinese text in them so we can show you readable, tappable text. They are used for that purpose, not to build advertising profiles.
Text you look up in the Reader: when you tap a word for an explanation or select text for a translation, that text is sent for processing along with the sentence around it, which is what makes the meaning correct. Only that text and its sentence are sent, not your photo, your account details, or your learning history.
Payment information: if you subscribe to a paid plan, payment is handled by a third-party payment processor. We receive confirmation of your subscription status and billing period; we never receive or store your full card details.
Usage information: how you interact with Zigo (pages viewed, features used), approximate device and browser information, and IP address, collected in part through cookies and similar technologies.

How we use information

To provide and operate Zigo: search, character breakdowns, saved decks, spaced-repetition review, and the Reader.
To maintain your subscription and process billing.
To understand how Zigo is used so we can improve it.
To communicate with you about your account, including transactional email.
To keep Zigo secure, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

How information is shared

We share information only with service providers that help us run Zigo, and only as far as they need it to do so: cloud hosting, payment processing, analytics, email delivery, image processing, and the language-model processing behind Reader lookups. That processing runs in the United States, configured so your text is not retained or used to train models. We do not keep the text of your lookups beyond showing you the answer.

We may also disclose information if required by law or legal process, to protect the rights, safety, or property of Zigo or others, or as part of a business transaction such as a merger or acquisition (in which case this policy would continue to apply to your information, and we would notify you of any material change).

Data retention and deletion

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by emailing hello@heyzigo.com. We will delete your information except where we are required to retain it (for example, billing records).

Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your data and to respond quickly if something goes wrong.

International transfers

Zigo is available worldwide, and your information may be processed and stored in countries other than your own. Where that happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information receives an adequate standard of protection.

Children

Zigo is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact us at hello@heyzigo.com and we will delete it.

Your rights

You can access, correct, export, or delete your personal information by emailing hello@heyzigo.com. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable data-protection law, including Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act. We will honour valid requests under the law that applies to you.

Cookies

Zigo uses essential cookies to keep you signed in and analytics cookies to understand how the product is used. You can control or clear cookies in your browser settings; essential cookies are required for signed-in features to work.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page with a new "last updated" date, and if a change is material we will take reasonable steps to bring it to your attention.
